Fulton County Schools Students Named National Merit Semifinalists

National Merit Scholarship ProgramOfficials of the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC®) announced the names of approximately 16,000 semifinalists in the 67th annual National Merit Scholarship Program, 123 of which are from Fulton County Schools.

Hailing from Alpharetta, Cambridge, Centennial, Chattahoochee, Johns Creek, Milton, North Springs, Northview, Riverwood and Roswell High Schools, these high school seniors have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 7,500 National Merit Scholarships worth nearly $30 million to be offered next spring. To be considered for a Merit Scholarship® award, a semifinalist must have an outstanding academic record throughout high school, be endorsed and recommended by a high school official, write an essay, and earn SAT® or ACT® scores that confirm the student’s earlier performance on the qualifying test. About 95 percent of the semifinalists are expected to attain finalist standing, and approximately half of the finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship.

This is the first round of competition for students seeking the distinction of becoming a National Merit Scholar and the accompanying scholarship winnings. Finalists will be named in February 2022, and winners will be announced beginning in April and concluding in July.
