Meet the Zone Superintendents: Dr. Tamara Candis, Zone 2
Fulton County Schools (FCS) has appointed seven Zone Superintendents for the 2020-2021 school year. We have asked each of them to answer six questions so you can get to know them. We are sharing responses from Dr. Tamara Candis, Superintendent, Zone 2. Visit the Learning Zone 2 webpage.
Why did you become an educator and who inspires you most?
She is not placed correctly, and I would like to move her to the accelerated reading group is the call my 5th grade teacher, Ms. McCaulley made to my parents. It was from that point forward that many doors and opportunities opened to change the entire trajectory of my educational experience including graduating with honors and taking Advanced Placement Courses. I became an educator because of Ms. McCaulley. Additionally, becoming an educator meant that I could have a greater impact and influence on my sons' educational foundation while spending more time with them. My mother inspires me the most because she is a servant leader in all areas of her life and one of the most resilient women I have ever met. Through all of life's challenges she continues to remain positive, faith filled and determined. She has always instilled confidence in me to believe in myself no matter the challenge, supported me and reminded me that God had big plans for my life (Jeremiah 29:11) and with God All Things are Possible (Matthew 19:26). Through my mother's guidance and the many influential teachers like Ms. McCaulley and leaders who have been a part of my journey, I am forever grateful that it led me to education.
What are your hopes as you take on this new challenge of Zone Superintendent?
As I take on this new challenge, my hope is to serve and lead in a way that builds the capacity of others and to create stronger communities and partnerships which have a lasting impact on children and families for generations to come. I am excited to be leading and serving in Zone 2.
