FCS Celebrates Georgia’s Pre-K Week
Learning to read is the foundation of a good education. During the first week of October, Fulton County Schools (FCS) will participate in Georgia's Pre-K Week, which emphasizes the importance of quality early childhood education by providing opportunities for leaders to engage with Pre-K classrooms in local communities.
The district, which boasts one of the largest Pre-K programs in the state, will celebrate Georgia's Pre-K Week with virtual read-alouds in 87 Pre-K classrooms in 47 schools across the district.
Georgia's Pre-K program was the first state-funded and universal program in the country. Georgia is one of eight states and D.C. that provides high quality care to more than 50 percent of 4-year-olds. Launched 11 years ago, Georgia Pre-K Week celebrates Georgia's nationally recognized Pre-K program, which has educated approximately 1.6 million of Georgia's youth since it began in 1992.
"Fulton County Schools cares deeply about and understands the long-term impact of quality early education on each child," said Coordinator of Early Childhood Pamela Weiser. "We are fortunate to have our Board members and district leaders celebrate our Pre-K program and mark the occasion by reading books to students and introducing those critical early literacy skills via video."
Georgia Pre-K Week is organized each year by Bright from the Start, the Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning and Voices for Georgia's Children and supported by more than 20 child-focused partner organizations.
