At the January 14 work session, the Fulton County School Board received "Global Impact Academy" as the recommended name for the South Fulton STEM School under construction in Fairburn. Nominated by a committee of South Fulton stakeholders, including School Governance Council members and elected officials, the proposed name reflects the school district's desire to provide a rigorous learning environment where students attain the knowledge and skills to positively impact the world.
School board members will receive public input on the proposed name at their upcoming community meetings, as well as through comments directed through the district's Board Services office at firstname.lastname@example.org, before taking a vote in February.
The South Fulton STEM school is one of two STEM-focused schools set to open in August 2021. The North Fulton campus - Innovation Academy - is located in Alpharetta while the yet-to-be-named South Fulton campus is in Fairburn.
