Meet the Zone Superintendents: Kibbey Crumbley, Zone 7
Fulton County Schools (FCS) has appointed seven Zone Superintendents for the 2020-2021 school year. We have asked each of them to answer six questions so you can get to know them. We are sharing responses from Kibbey Crumbley, Superintendent, Zone 7. Visit the Learning Zone 7 webpage.
Why did you become an educator and who inspires you most?
I have built my career right here in Fulton County Schools, beginning as a student teacher, becoming a high school ELA and journalism teacher, then an assistant administrator, then an assistant principal, then a high school principal, then an area superintendent… and now a zone superintendent. It’s been a fascinating journey. My passions are communication, teaching, and leading and I have been fortunate to pursue all three throughout my career in FCS. My inspirations are my children. My husband and I are parents of 2 FCS graduates and we couldn’t be prouder of the education they received and the successes they are having in college. My parents taught me the deep value of public service and I am proud that my work has potential to positively impact Fulton County residents.
What are your hopes as you take on this new challenge of Zone Superintendent?
I have always kept it pretty simple – hire people who are nice and smart, try to make big schools (and districts!) feel small by personalizing students’ experiences, maintain grace under pressure, and assume goodwill. So my hopes for Zone 7 are to work diligently to continue building strong relationships amongst our students, staff, parents, community, and district to improve learning outcomes for all students - because together, our best days are ahead.
What's the top item on your bucket list?
Australia! I would love to visit Australia. My favorite animal is the koala bear and visiting its natural habitat would be amazing!
What are your hobbies?
I love traveling and look forward to a big European trip with my family and parents as soon as Covid-19 is over and we can all see the world again. Is cruising a hobby? Because I really, really love going on cruises…
What's the last song you added to your playlist?
Riptide by Vance Joy (off of his album God loves you when you’re dancing) – My daughter and her boyfriend recently played a cover of this song for me on ukulele. Beautiful!
What's your favorite book?
Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen.
