All other topics discussed or approved are available via BoardDocs.
Board Matters
Board members shared inspiring stories, recognitions and information regarding staff, students, and community partners.
Superintendent’s Report
Superintendent Looney encouraged everyone to complete this year’s Census prior to the deadline of September 30. Executive Director Ryan Moore shared results of the Universal Remote Learning survey which parents, students and staff were invited to complete. Parent responders were primarily positive and 95% of parents indicated that students are participating daily in Universal Remote Learning. Click here to see survey results.
Dr. Looney announced an adjustment to Fulton’s Operating Guidelines to allow before and after school vendors to provide care for employees’ children during the school day through October 9. The services are fee-based and available onsite for employees.
The superintendent also shared that according to the Fulton County Board of Health’s latest epidemiology report data continues to indicate a downward trend of COVID-19 cases in the county with the positivity rate dropping to 5%, which is a target indicator recommended by public health officials. He reminded the community that by continuing to observe social distancing, wearing masks, and practicing good hygiene we can keep this positive trend going and secure the face-to-face learning option starting October 14 as planned for all students.
Chief Financial Officer Marvin Dereef updated the Board regarding tax bills currently being distributed by the Fulton County Tax Commissioner with taxes due November 15. Because of the delayed distribution of tax bills, the Board approved pursuing a line of credit to be used if needed to maintain the district’s cash flow. The line of credit would require repayment by December 31.
Reminders
Remember to complete the Census prior to September 30 – if you have not done so already. Federal, state and local funds, as well as how geographic districts are drawn for elected offices, are determined by population. As communities grow or become smaller, knowing the size of the population becomes important for planning the future. This affects the funding for public schools and the resources received for special education, classroom technology, teacher training, after-school programs, school lunch assistance, and more. Funding for other community resources, such as healthcare, law enforcement and social agencies also is impacted by Census data.
