School Safety Update

School Safety Update

Like you, my staff and I are deeply saddened by Monday’s recent tragedy in Nashville. We share in the heartbreak we are all feeling for the families who have lost a loved one due to this senseless act of violence.

School should and must be a place where students and staff feel completely safe and secure. Barnwell has multiple safety precautions in place, including locking all exterior doors, surveillance cameras, door alarms, security buzzer system, shatter proof window film on all cafeteria windows, and a close relationship with local law enforcement and school resource officers. Along with building safety our staff and students participate in routine drills to help minimize the fear should an incident occur. We also encourage you and your students to report anything suspicious or concerning to school staff or law enforcement, so we can investigate and take appropriate action.

While I can’t guarantee that violence will not happen, I can guarantee that we have a process in place to protect our students and staff are in place. We know students will process this news in different ways. School Counselors, Social Workers, and Psychologist are available to assist students who may need some extra support.
