  • Parental Resources to Continue the Digital Citizenship Conversation: Social Media / Digital Media, Risk Factors, and Potential Consequences

Parents, you are an important part of continued efforts to educate students about digital citizenship and safety. Ridgeview is a certified Common Sense Media school indicating our ongoing commitment to educating students and staff about the online and digital landscape that is present to middle school students and the variety of consequences – disciplinary and real-life – that can occur from misbehavior in the online landscape. Each fall we spend time before we distribute devices educating on crucial topics such as online presence, sexting, social media, and more. We offer parental overviews of some of these topics in our monthly Parent University courses. Please click HERE to view the schedule up coming workshops on our Parent Resource Center page.

In an effort to provide parents additional resources to utilize at home, we ask you to review this Social Media & Sexting FCS Letter as well as Talking Tips Facts Sheet and this Prevention and Intervention flowchart  and engage in conversation with your students. These conversations at school and at home are important as we partner together ensure that our students both know our collective expectations of behavior and safety and that they also know the consequences of misbehavior in the online landscape.

We invite you to join us at one of our upcoming Parent University courses where we’ll continue conversations about digital citizenship and how we can partner together.
