Superintendent's Advisory Councils
Superintendent Advisory Councils serve as a crucial link between the Superintendent and the community, comprising diverse stakeholders such as parents, students, teachers, administrators, staff, and community members. Their primary purpose is to provide input, feedback, and recommendations to the Superintendent, contributing to more informed decision-making and inclusive governance. Through this approach, Superintendent Advisory Councils not only improve the educational experience for students but also strengthen community engagement and support for the schools they serve. Every three years, the Advisory Councils will review and propose revisions to the Fulton County Schools’ Bill of Rights tenets. Revisions will be presented to the Board of Education for review and approval. The Superintendent meets with six councils throughout the year.
Parent and Community Member Advisory Council
The Parent and Community Member Council consists of a School Governance Council (SGC) representative from every school. The representative is nominated on an annual basis, and they serve as one of the parent/community members of the SGC.
PTO/PTA Advisory Council
The PTO/PTA Advisory Council is comprised of dedicated parent leaders representing the parent-teacher organizations from each school. There is at least one representative from each school.
Principal Advisory Council
The Principal Advisory Council consists of a rotating group of principals selected from various zones and levels across the district.
Teacher Advisory Council
The Teacher Advisory Council is composed of outstanding educators chosen as the Teacher of the Year from each school. In cases where the Teacher of the Year is no longer at the school, the principal selects another teacher to join the council.
Support Staff Advisory Council
The Support Staff Advisory Council comprises various essential personnel across the district, such as paraprofessionals and staff from the nutrition, facilities, and transportation departments. Their participation ensures that the perspectives and needs of the entire school community are considered.
Student Advisory Council
The Student Advisory Council consists of 6 high school students selected from each school. Two are students who serve as representatives from their School Governance Council. The other four students are 10-12 graders who apply to serve on the council.
