Conley Hills Elementary School

conley hills school

Overview

The replacement Conley Hills Elementary is being built on a 14-acre site adjacent to Woodland Middle School in East Point. The location is rich in Fulton County Schools history, having been the site of the former Briarwood/Woodland High School, and then later, the old Woodland Middle School. The construction of Conley Hills Elementary School on that site will continue the tradition of building high quality schools in a community that supports students and public education.

The architectural design and layout is similar to other multi-story elementary schools in Fulton County, including Asa G. Hilliard Elementary and College Park Elementary in South Fulton, and Lake Forest Elementary, Esther Jackson Elementary and Heards Ferry Elementary in North Fulton. The school is organized in a linear north-south direction with PreK-5 classrooms stacked within the south wing, and core functions to north: music, gymnasium, and cafetorium on grade with the media center/administrative suites stacked at this end of the building. This stacking organization creates a vertical column of spaces which can be isolated and secured from the classroom spaces for after-school programs and community use functions.

The simple linear organization makes the layout of the school less confusing to young children and provides good visual observation for administration and staff. Natural light is infused throughout due to the strategic placement of windows.
The exterior material selections include brick veneer, metal and cast stone trim which provide excellent long-term durability against the effects of weather while offering the community a building that is low in maintenance and timeless in design.
