Summer Projects
2021 Summer Projects
School is never out of session in Fulton County. When students and staff move out for summer vacation, construction and maintenance crews move in to perform the projects needed to get ready for the next academic year.
Those 10 weeks of summer allow workers to replace roofs, replace fire alarm systems, repair worn floors, paint walls, replace mechanical system equipment, pave parking lots, and tackle other items that are difficult to finish when students and staff are inside a school. During this time, schools receive interior and exterior facelifts, health and safety upgrades, security enhancements, and other improvements funded by the one-penny education sales tax, SPLOST.
New and Replacement Schools
Finishing touches are taking place at the replacement Crabapple Middle School and the two STEM-focused high schools, Global Impact Academy and Innovation Academy, to prepare for their August 2021 openings. Construction also is progressing at Riverwood International Charter School, where Phase III of the project involves a gymnasium/health addition, renovations to the performing arts areas (auditorium, music, drama, band, orchestra and chorus), tennis courts, a new practice field, and additional parking. The full project is expected to finish in 2022.
Large Renovation/Addition Projects
Centennial, Roswell and Tri-Cities high schools have classroom additions under construction as well as renovations occurring to other parts of the buildings. The Centennial and Roswell projects will wrap up in October 2021 while the Tri-Cities project will end in July 2022.
Other Renovation Projects
Evoline C. West Elementary School and Shakerag Elementary School have extensive renovation work planned this summer, including mechanical system replacements and electrical upgrades. E.C. West also will undergo a front reception area renovation as well as new restrooms, painting, door hardware and flooring while Shakerag has a new fire alarm system installed. The gymnasium bleachers and flooring at Chattahoochee High School will be replaced and Sweet Apple Elementary School will have a new HVAC system installed.
Roof replacement will occur at Cogburn Woods Elementary School, High Point Elementary School and Manning Oaks Elementary School, and the media centers are being renovated at five middle schools – Autrey Mill, Ridgeview, River Trail, Sandtown and Taylor Road.
At the central office level, the district’s Administrative Center will undergo a roof/HVAC replacement project this summer and a similar project is in the planning stage for the North Learning Center.

West, Hembree Springs, High Point, Hillside, Liberty Point, Mimosa, Palmetto, Renaissance, River Eves, Stonewall Tell and Sweet Apple. Replacement is set for 13 additional elementary schools in 2022.
