Public Hearing

Dates set for school closure public hearings

Public hearings are set for the Fulton County Board of Education to receive input on the proposed closure of Parklane Elementary School in East Point, Spalding Drive Elementary School in Sandy Springs, and the Conley Hills Elementary School building in East Point.

Parklane and Spalding Drive elementary schools face low enrollments and aging facilities, prompting a recommendation to close the schools and consolidate students into nearby schools through redistricting. Per the ESPLOST vote, a replacement Conley Hills Elementary School facility is opening for the 2025-2026 school year, requiring the old building to be decommissioned so students can transition to the new school.

Two scheduled school closure hearings allow the School Board to receive comments from the community before rendering a decision on the schools’ proposed closures:

  • February 11, 2025 (FCS North Learning Center, 450 Northridge Parkway in Sandy Springs)
  • February 20, 2025 (FCS South Learning Center, 4025 Flat Shoals Road in Union City)

Procedure for School Closure Public Hearings
The public hearings begin at 6 p.m., starting with a 30-minute session for Conley Hills Elementary School input, followed by a 30-minute session for Parklane Elementary School input and then a 30-minute session for Spalding Drive Elementary School input.

  • Individuals wishing to speak may sign up beginning at 5:30 p.m. using the specified sign-up sheets.
  • The 30-minute sessions will be divided among the registered speakers, with a maximum of two minutes per person.
  • Speakers may share their time with others if desired; however, the two minute maximum per slot applies.

Board Recognitions and Public Comment Session
After the public hearings conclude, the School Board will begin its scheduled recognition session honoring students, staff, and schools. The regular public comment session then will follow, giving registered speakers four minutes to address the School Board on any topic. Those wishing to speak during public comment may sign up at 5:30 p.m. using the specified sign-up sheet. The public comment period will conclude after 30 minutes.

Additional Ways to Share Input
FCS staff will provide comment cards for individuals who wish to submit written feedback or were unable to speak during the public hearing or comment session. Additionally, feedback may be sent to questions@fultonschools.org. Communications received via these methods will be shared with the Board of Education.
