SGC Overview

  • The purpose of the School Governance Council is to provide parents, school staff, and community members with a leadership role in the management of the school. The School Governance Council is a governing body that is representative of the community and the school, but operates under the control and management of the Board of Education. The Council is responsible for making decisions regarding the strategic direction of the school including:

    • Approve the school strategic plan and updates
    • Approve the annual budget and annual resource allocations
    • Manage the Request for Flexibility process
    • Participate in hiring the principal (in the case of a vacancy)
    • Provide annual feedback on principal performance.

Request for Flexibility Waiver

  • Milton High School Community,

    We are accepting Public Comment regarding our Request for Flexibility (RFF) Waiver, which we have opted to renew for the 2022-2023 School Year.  Please send feedback to Alex Marsh, SGC chair, at marshaj@fultonschools.org or plan to speak at our next meeting, during the time allotted for Public Comment. 

    This is how the waiver will meet our school goals and initiatives:

    The opportunity for students to fulfill the Personal Fitness graduation requirement through extra-curricular activities will allow students more freedom to take courses that fit their interests and passions.  Semester courses such as SAT prep, visual and performing arts electives, and potential credit recovery courses give flexibility to students that they may not have had in their schedule due to the semester requirement of personal fitness.  This will support our academic outcomes for students who are on track for graduation as well assisting students in their growth mindset.  Milton's initiative around providing 9th graders targeted support for longitudinal success will also be supported by this waiver because personal fitness is traditionally taken in the 9th grade and with another semester credit open in their schedule more structures can be implemented to ensure that success.
