Kindra Smith joined Riverwood in 2019 and has 24 successful years working with the Fulton County School district and has served in several capacities during this time. Her experiences include serving as a teacher at Crabapple Crossing Elementary for seven years, Assistant Principal of Northwestern Middle for eight years, Principal of Roswell North for five years, and Principal of Elkins Pointe Middle for four years. Ms. Smith is originally from Centerville, Tennessee, and has called Georgia her home since 1995.
Ms. Smith received her undergraduate degree on a basketball scholarship from the University of North Alabama, her master's degree from Kennesaw State University, and her Specialist degree from the University of West Georgia in Educational leadership. After her fourth year of serving as Principal of Roswell North, Mrs. Smith was selected as Fulton County’s Principal of the Year for her steadfast commitment to seeking success for all students through innovative practices, strong support for teachers and her “on the ground” community engagement efforts. During her tenure at Elkins Pointe, she led efforts to significantly increase academic student performance and growth through the work of Professional Learning Communities, data-based decision making, and building strong teams to meet the needs of all learners in her school.
Over the past four years, Ms. Smith has led efforts for the majority of her staff to be TAG certified as well as trained on the AVID teaching methodologies to ensure quality instruction for all students. From 2017-2018, Elkins Pointe realized an 11.8 increase in their CCRPI score from 71.3 to 83.1 due to her unwavering commitment of bringing all stakeholders together to support the school’s mantra of “Smart, Happy, and Connected”. In 2018, Elkins Pointe received the Georgia Department of Education recognition of “Beating the Odds” which identifies Title 1 schools that are outperforming like schools with similar diverse populations. In the spring of 2019 before joining Riverwood, Elkins received a five-star school climate rating for its seventh year in a row as well as received the distinction of being an AVID Showcase School for its successful work with this program.
Ms. Smith enjoys writing music, singing, and rooting for the Falcons. She and her husband Michael have two children, Tori and Trey. Ms. Smith’s mission is for every student and adult to feel loved, supported, and motivated to achieve at their highest level and leveraging the support of all stakeholders to support overall school success.
