Dear Wildcat family,
Welcome Home!
Schooling during a pandemic continues to be a challenge, and I sincerely appreciate your support and patience as we navigate the return of our students and ever-changing conditions.
I am so excited to be your principal! E.C. West is home for me. I have served as a teacher, Curriculum Support Teacher, Assistant Principal, and now, Principal. I grew up in the South Fulton community and some of our families I have known for 20 years or more! This school is my extended family.
As an instructional leader, I am committed to providing quality experiences that address the academic, social, and emotional needs of every child in order for them to reach their full potential. We have an amazing staff of dedicated professionals who are passionate about education and are committed to meeting the needs of all students. I am fortunate to have a fantastic team!
We are looking forward to an exciting school year! We know there have been disruptions in learning and our minds are set on accelerating the curriculum for students. Teachers and students are reunited and ready to move forward. We will bring back some pre-pandemic learning opportunities such as One Book, One Wildcat family, and we will continue some virtual practices such as bedtime stories. While in virtual learning, we discovered some engaging digital resources that we will combine with hands-on activities to reach all learners.
As the only State STEM-certified school in South Fulton County, we continue to be proud of the STEM innovation our students are experiencing in our school. Project-based learning engages all students, requires them to demonstrate a deep understanding of standards across content areas, and the solutions prompt students to think outside of our school community. We welcome back our business partners to support our students and will conduct STEM showcase days where students and teachers share our exceptional program with visitors from across the state. The visitors are always complimentary of how well our students work together to solve STEM problems and communicate the solutions. They also rave about the level of engagement and instruction our students are receiving from our teachers.
I am so proud of our school community. It never surprises me how the E.C. West community pulls together to help one another. I believe your participation and collaboration are essential to the overall success of the school. I will continue to keep you informed with the Tuesday Talk, and I look forward to working with all families in my new role. With your support and involvement, I know our school will continue to be a wonderful place to learn and grow!
Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me or our staff. We are here to support you.
Be well and stay safe,
Jill Meeker
