•  The Counseling program is an integral part of our students' school experience. The purpose of this site is to inform parents of the services available to assist students with their personal and academic needs.

  • ​​School Counselors are the heart of the school and make a difference by:

    •  Promoting positive attitudes among students toward self, family, peers, school, and community.                               

    • Working with students on character education, friendships, and attendance issues.
    •   Helping students understand the relationship between school performance and future opportunities.                             

    •  Developing and delivering classroom lessons that teach skills such as resolving conflicts and respecting others.   

    •  Working collaboratively with students, parents and teachers to identify and remove barriers to learning.                 

    •  Helping students to recognize and make the best of their abilities.                                                                                                      ​ 

    •   Counseling with students individually and in groups.
    •   Helping teachers create a positive learning environment.
    •   Providing support during personal crisis and periods of grief.
    •   Helping to create a safe school environment where children can learn.
    •   Coordinating referrals to outside community resources and mental health agencies.
    •   Helping design interventions to enhance student success.
    •   Developing and maintaining community partnerships to enhance students' college and career awareness.
    •   Teaching students anger management, conflict resolution, and mediation skills.
    •   Coordinating transitional, college and career activities.


Counseling Mission Statement

  • The mission of the Counseling Department is to build a comprehensive developmental counseling program addressing the academic, career, and personal/social development of all students. Programs developed by the Counseling Department will be driven by the unique ethnic, cultural, and economic diversity of the entire student population with the end goal of removing barriers to student learning and encouraging achievement at the highest level for each student. Through a partnership with students, educators, parents, and the community, the  Counseling Department will prepare students academically and socially to be productive members and leaders of society.


  • All students learn and achieve.  The rate and amount that these occur is influenced by prior experiences, personal motivation and current skill and achievement level.  This belief is important for students because it instills confidence about his/her learning potential and places some personal responsibility for their educational achievement.  This belief indicates that the counselor understands that there is no one size fits all category; and the support services provided will be responsive to individual strengths and needs.


  • While all students are learning to their fullest potential, fulfilling the 3 components of our school mission through rigor, relevant instruction, real world applications and the use of technology, they are motivated to establish individuality, or their unique identity socially, personally and creatively.  The school counseling program will provide support to students individually and collectively to realize their academic, personal/social and career endeavors.  This contributes to student's success and development: significant to Renaissance's overall vision.

  • Counseling Services are those services that provide emotional, social, academic and career support, guidance and advisement to any and every student at Renaissance Elementary School.  Our students are tomorrow’s future and we strive to prepare our students for their future.  Although academic development and enrichment is the primary goal of education, any issues or concerns that may impact this goal is the target for offering counseling services.

    Seeks to assist student in the art of Problem Solving inside and outside of the classroom.

    Provides resolution to groups of students who share a common bond or problem.  Students will work toward achieving a common goal together over a specified time period.
