    Parent/Guardian Candidate

    Name: Jalessa Holden

    Candidate Statement: I am Jaleesa Holden the mother to an incredible four year old. My son Tiger, has Fragile X syndrome, a genetic condition that causes intellectual disability. I am a strong advocate for equitable education for students with and without disabilities.

    As an Account Executive, Marketing Communications Manager, board member for parent to parent GA, and veteran of the United States Air Force Reserves I understand the importance of team work to achieve the strategic goal, and what supports are necessary for individual and team success. Remaining flexible, providing a platform for constructive criticism, and consistency are key factors for strategic success. I believe in fiscal responsibility, and utilizing monetary resources where they would benefit multiple student populations.

    I love FCS educators and their commitment to each student achieving their individual best.

    It would be an honor to serve on Fulton County School Governance Council supporting FCS families and staff.

    Name: Joaquin Knight

    Candidate Statement: I am a teacher of 14 years with FCS possessing a master’s degree. I have served with SGC at a previous school. My goal is to always be an advocate for all students all of the time. This is an incredible platform to advocate for the youth.

SGC Overview

  • The purpose of the School Governance Council is to provide parents, school staff, and community members with a leadership role in the management of the school. The School Governance Council is a governing body that is representative of the community and the school, but operates under the control and management of the Board of Education. The Council is responsible for making decisions regarding the strategic direction of the school including:

    • Approve the school strategic plan and updates
    • Approve the annual budget and annual resource allocations
    • Manage the Request for Flexibility process
    • Participate in hiring the principal (in the case of a vacancy)
    • Provide annual feedback on principal performance.


    • 3 parents/guardians (elected by parents/guardians of the school)
    • 2 teachers (elected by school employees)
    • 2 community members (nominated by the principal, approved by the SGC)
    • 2 school employees (appointed by the principal)


    The principal serves on all SGCs as a non-voting member.
