On behalf of the entire faculty and staff, it is with great pleasure that I welcome you to Westlake High School for the 2023-2024 school year! We are thrilled to have you join our community and embark on a journey of excellence and achievement together.
At Westlake High School, our vision is clear: to be recognized as a top-performance high school in academics, athletics, and the arts. A well-rounded education encompasses rigorous academic pursuits and active involvement in athletic and fine arts programs. Our dedicated faculty is here to support and guide your students toward greatness, and we encourage you to play an active role in their academic and extracurricular endeavors.
Academically, we have witnessed outstanding achievements at Westlake. Our Georgia Milestone End of Course assessment results have shown remarkable progress, while our Advanced Placement (AP) and International Baccalaureate (IB) scores have soared. We are particularly proud of our CTAE Healthcare pathway, which produced Fulton County's CTAE student of the year. Our DECA, TSA, and Skills USA teams have also achieved remarkable international, state, and national success. Moreover, JROTC plays a pivotal role in Westlake's success, instilling essential leadership values in our student cadets.
In the realm of athletics, Westlake High School has excelled as well. We proudly secured state championships in esports (NBA 2K) and boys and girls track and achieved numerous region championships across different sports. Our teams consistently competed in the GHSA playoffs, demonstrating the depth of talent and dedication in our athletes. Furthermore, our competitive cheer team showcased their skills at the state championship, proudly representing Westlake.
The arts continue to thrive at Westlake High School. Our band triumphed in the battle of the bands at the Florida Classic and received all superiors at the Large Group Performance Evaluation. The chorus and orchestra have captivated audiences throughout Atlanta, performing at special events, including those for the mayor. Westlake Musical Theatre staged an exceptional "Dream Girls" production, leaving audiences in awe. Not to be outdone, our dance team, "Blue Reign," clinched a state championship in high kick, exemplifying the talent and artistry within our school.
Our theme for the upcoming school year is "Structured to WIN." This mantra underscores our commitment to providing a supportive, structured environment where students can thrive and achieve their full potential.
We have vital channels to enhance communication between the school and home. The Uproar, our weekly newsletter, will be emailed every Sunday at 6:00 pm, featuring messages from the principal, student highlights, updates on athletics and the arts, opportunities beyond the classroom, and scholarship information.
Additionally, each teacher will communicate with parents via email, sharing upcoming learning objectives, practice assignments, minor assignments, and major assignments. We will also provide a Missing Assignment Report every Thursday at 6:00 pm, allowing you to stay informed about your child's progress. Progress reports will be issued every 4.5 weeks to overview your child's academic performance comprehensively.
We believe that student engagement through regular attendance and punctuality is crucial for their success in a school "Structured to Win." By fostering a culture of commitment and discipline, we empower our students to excel and accomplish their goals.
Lastly, I would like to bring your attention to our highly anticipated student events that sell out yearly. The Homecoming dance, Junior-Senior Prom, and the Freshman-Sophomore Sun Dress and Seersucker event are beloved traditions at Westlake High School. We encourage you to secure your student's tickets early, as they sell out quickly.
