  • Greetings, family and friends of College Park Elementary,
    College Parks Counselor began as a professional school counselor in Fulton County at Paul D. West Middle School in 2002. During this time, College Parks Counselor have enjoyed implementing and managing programs to increase scholars' potential to ensure their continued success in school and life.  
    College Parks Counselor is a National Board-Certified Counselor (NBCC), a National Board-Certified School Counselor (NBCSC), and a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC). He is an alumnus of West Georgia College, where he received a Bachelor of Science in Recreation Therapy and a Master of Education in Guidance and Counseling. He played and later coached football while attending West Georgia. He earned a Doctor of Education in Counseling Psychology from Argosy University Sarasota. His favorite color is blue; his birthday is August 30th; he is a huge Denver Broncos fan. He enjoys riding his motorcycle, reading, playing tennis, and spending time with his family and friends. Please give him a firm handshake or fist bump when you see him.

     Belief Statement: Students' education is a shared responsibility between (parent, student, community, and school). 
    The mission of The Counseling Center is to improve the overall quality of living and learn for the students, staff, and parents by inspiring and teaching them to make healthier academic and behavioral choices.

    The vision of The Counseling Center is to be the paramount school counseling provider of empowering and inspiring programs and services that enhance the academic and behavioral performance of all students. We aim to do this by inspiring and teaching students skills for everyday living to be college, career, and life ready.
    The beliefs of The Counseling Center are:


    • Effective communication.
    • Shared responsibility (parent, student, community, and school).
    • Consistency.
    • The importance of being a positive role model and giving your best to be your best.

    The counseling center's focus is to advance career development and enhance our scholars' appropriate and healthy interactions. Scholars may participate in lessons about Anger & Other Emotions, Being A Brave Friend, A Reporting Friend, ID A Trusted Adult, Choices & Consequences, Gun Safety, The Art of Listening, and transition to middle school. 

    Program Goal: By May 24, 2024, ​r
    educe the percentage of chronic/severe absences from 42.4% to 29.7%.   


    Fulton County Schools' (FCS) mission is to educate every student to be a responsible, productive citizen. In addition, College Park's mission is to build relationships with family and community. Therefore, students must interact with their peers and adults in a healthy way to meet the school's and district's mission.

Counseling Services

    Dr. Sutherland's primary role as a professional school counselor focuses on the core curriculum. The delivery of this model will occur through scheduled classroom lessons. Dr. Sutherland's training in child development, learning strategies, self-management, and social skills; he understands and promotes success for today's diverse students. He implements a school counseling program to support students through crucial developmental periods. The program integrates education, prevention, and intervention activities into children's lives. The program teaches knowledge, attitudes, and skills students need to acquire in academic, career, and social/emotional development, which is the foundation for future success. Additionally, group counseling is available for identified small groups of students as needed.

    Individual Counseling
    Seeks to assist the student in the art of problem-solving inside and outside of the classroom.

    ​Group Counseling
    Provides resolution to groups of students who share a common bond or difficulty. Students will work toward achieving a common goal together over a specified period.
