Redistricting Fall 2023 - South Fulton

South Fulton Redistricting (Fall 2023)

As promised by the one-penny sales tax for education (ESPLOST), a new S.L. Lewis Elementary School is being built to replace its aging facility. The future opening of this school provides an opportunity to balance enrollment among South Fulton elementary schools through redistricting and/or consolidation. School attendance zone changes would be expected to go into effect beginning in the 2024-25 school year.

Redistricting 101 Meeting

  • Monday, October 2, 2023 - 6:00 P.M. to 7:30 P.M. (Online)
  • School system staff hosts an informational meeting on redistricting criteria and scope

 

Round 1 Public Meeting

  • Wednesday, October 11, 2023 (6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.) at McNair Middle School
  • School system staff will outline the redistricting process and establish ground rules for facilitated small-group input sessions
  • Participants will move to small-group sessions and give input related to the redistricting criteria.
  • Staff will review public comments and apply Board-approved redistricting criteria to develop alternative attendance zone plans prior to the next community forum.

 

Round 2 Public Meeting

  • Thursday, November 2, 2023 (6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.) at McNair Middle School
  • Staff will present alternative proposals for new attendance zones.
  • Community members will review and offer comments on strengths and weaknesses of each plan in facilitated small-group discussions.
  • Prior to the next community forum, staff will condense the number of attendance zone alternatives based on public input.

 

Round 3 Public Meeting

  • Thursday, November 30, 2023 (6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.) at McNair Middle School
  • Staff will present a draft plan(s) for new attendance zones.
  • Community members will review and offer comments on strengths and weaknesses of the draft plan(s) in facilitated small-group discussions.
  • Staff will use comments to develop a final recommendation for Board consideration
  • Submit a comment regarding the Round 3 Draft Plan (online forum closes at midnight on 12/3/23)

  • Public Hearing - Thursday, February 8, 2024
    • First of two public hearings around the proposed closure of S.L.Lewis ES
    • Meeting starts at 6 p.m. at the South Learning Center at 4025 Flat Shoals Road

  • Final Action - Tuesday, February 20, 2024
    • Second of two public hearings around the proposed closure of S.L.Lewis ES
    • Board Members will vote on final attendance zone changes 
    • Meeting starts at 6 p.m. at the South Learning Center at 4025 Flat Shoals Road
      Union City, GA 3029

 

Notifications

  • March 2024
    • Communication sent to households affected by approved redistricting changes. Instructions provided to eligible students wishing to remain at their current school.
