Building the Bridge

Why "Bridge To Success?"

Bridges create connection and offer a great way to access destinations that may not be easily reachable. The COVID-19 pandemic undeniably created barriers and limitations to the traditionally linear road to student achievement and success. Because of this, Fulton County Schools is implementing a comprehensive plan to bridge the educational gaps created by the pandemic. FCS is calling the strategies and program initiatives for addressing disruptive gaps to instruction and learning the "Bridge To Success."

Touchpoints from many different areas of the school district will come together to execute the plan, which focuses on ensuring FCS students record the highest academic growth averages in the Metro Atlanta area. Utilizing federal Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) funds, FCS will implement research-based strategies to build the Bridge To Success, from prioritizing safe environments for face-to-face instruction to improving and expanding existing program options.

Every Child Reads is another key initiative that focuses on improving student literacy and transforming the district's approach to literacy instruction. As a part of this program, FCS will add K-2 literary coaches in each elementary school. Additional strategic initiatives include Textbook Adoption, Leadership Development, Expanded Program Options, as well as FOCUS...which is a collaborative program that aims accelerate student learning and address the specific needs of students utilizing targeted resources such as High Dosage Small Group Tutoring. This concept involves having a single tutor with a student over school year in math or reading and can double the amount of learning students typically gain during the year.
