DESTRUCTION OF SPECIAL EDUCATION RECORDS POLICY

In compliance with the Georgia Records Act, the Fulton County School District’s records retention schedule, and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) regulations on destruction of data collected, maintained or used in the provision of a free and appropriate public education of students with disabilities in the district’s schools, the Special Education Department announces its intention to destroy specific special education records.

Records for students who were enrolled in a special education program in the district’s schools who were born before January 1, 2003, are no longer needed for these educational purposes.

The Fulton County School System archives and stores special education student records from the Special Education Department for a limited time according to the Common Records Retention Schedules for school systems, under the Georgia Archives University System of Georgia. All special education records for students age 22 and older (born before January 1, 2003) are scheduled for destruction after December of that calendar year.  Any person desiring to obtain his/her records may request them at https://fultonga.scriborder.com/ prior to Dec 15.
