School Social Work

the school social work department enhances student academic performance through a tiered attendance support model. School social workers address the barriers prohibiting students from attending through mental health agency referrals, connection to community resources, housing referrals/assistance, and family connection home visits.

Under the leadership of the Coordinator, School Social Workers provide the following supports to champion Fulton County Schools' strategic plan.

Ensure Impactful Programming:

Fulton County School’s social workers take an innovative approach to student achievement by facilitating intervention support. Social worker interventions include but are not limited to intensive attendance interventions, Check & Connect, small group programming, and individual student support.

Deepen Community Connections:

School Social Workers strengthen ties with families and community partners by completing home and agency visits, providing essential economic aid services, and connecting families to local resources.

Enhance Performance for All Students:

100% of School Social Workers serve as participants on the schools’ MTSS teams(s). School Social Workers play a vital role in the MTSS process – analyzing attendance data, connecting families to resources, removing barriers to learning, and delivering targeted intervention support to help every student succeed

Prioritize Safety and Operational Efficiency:

School Social Workers respond to students in crisis by providing intervention support such as de-escalation and crisis plans. They also facilitate mental health and DFCS referrals and actively lead and participate in district-wide awareness campaigns focused on child abuse prevention and suicide prevention.
