Banneker High School SAFE Center


Mission Statement: The SAFE Center is dedicated to providing a secure and supportive environment for all students at Banneker High School. Established in 2018, the SAFE Center delivers essential services such as food, clothing, counseling, and mental health support, while addressing out-of-school barriers to learning through partnerships with social and health service agencies.

Overarching Goal: To build a culture of professional learning, collective trust, and shared responsibility for the school and the surrounding community.


  1. Purpose of the SAFE Center
    • Provide a safe haven for students facing challenges.
    • Offer resources for mental health, academic support, and personal development.
    • Integrate student support by engaging family and community members as school partners.
       
  2. Services Offered
    • Counseling and mental health support.
    • Academic tutoring and assistance.
    • Peer support groups.
    • Workshops on various life skills.
    • Provision of food and clothing.
    • Onsite Health Clinic: Provides medical services and healthcare consultation.
    • Wellness Room for Teachers: A dedicated space for teacher relaxation and stress management.
    • Weekly Food Distribution: Offers food assistance to the surrounding community.
       
  3. Partnerships
    • Collaboration with numerous organizations has supported and helped bring this project to fruition.

      • Goodr, Atlanta Community Food Bank, Family Ties, Family Health Centers of Georgia, Communities in Schools, Teen Coalition/Upward Bound, College Bound, Atlanta Fulton Family Connection, Phenomenal Women's Health
