Summer Learning Classes
will be June 2 – June 30, 2025

Middle School Summer Learning is an opportunity for middle school students to receive additional support in English Language Arts and Math in a face-to-face setting or accelerate and take a course for the first time through Fulton Virtual.

Tuition is not required for students who participate in the face-to-face setting or retake a previously failed, year-long World Language course through Fulton Virtual. Tuition is required for students who wish to accelerate their learning through Fulton Virtual.

2025 Summer School Invitation Criteria

Grade Level Invitation Criteria
Grades 6-8
Face-to-Face

Required to attend Summer Learning: 

  • 6th-8th grade student who did not meet the reading indicator on the Georgia Milestones ELA Assessment 
  • 6th-8th grade student who scored beginning level on the Georgia Milestones Math Assessment 

Recommended to attend Summer Learning: 

  • 6th-8th grade student who failed a year-long World Language course and wants to retake the course through Fulton Virtual  
  • 6th-8th grade student who failed an ELA and/or reading course  
  • 6th-8th grade student who failed a math course 
  • 6th-8th grade student who is performing 2 or more year(s) below grade level on the Winter i-Ready Diagnostic in Reading   
  • 6th-8th grade student who is performing 2 or more year(s) below grade level on the Winter i-Ready Diagnostic in Math 
  • 6th-8th grade student being recommended by his/her teacher 
  • 6th-8th grade student being considered for retention 
  • 6th-8th grade student on Adapted Curriculum who scored level 1 or 2 on the English Language Arts and/or Math Georgia Alternate Assessment or a rubric will be utilized for students who did not take GAA in Spring 2024

Fulton Virtual

There is no virtual option for elementary students or middle school students who fail ELA, Reading, Math, Science, or Social Studies.

Fulton Virtual Summer School is for middle school only who: 

  • Earn an F in a year-long World Language course and want to retake the course
  • Are approved to accelerate their learning and take a course for the first time
  • Earn an F in a high school level course and want to retake the course

Face-to-Face Summer Learning Curriculum

Grades 6-8 English/Language Arts

  • Students will receive explicit, direct instruction on reading informational and literary standards. Students will closely read and analyze literary and informational texts using a variety of comprehension strategies. Teachers will read aloud portions of a novel daily and students will engage in collaborative discussions around the novel. Students will get to take the novel home at the conclusion of summer school.

 

Grades 6-8 Math

  • Students will focus on the major work of each grade level through daily lessons designed to support fluency, mathematical discourse, and conceptual understanding.

 

Grades 6-8 Adapted Curriculum

  • Special education students who are assessed on the Georgia Alternate Assessment 2.0 will receive an adapted curriculum focused on reading and math skills.

Summer Learning Transportation 

Abbreviated transportation is available for summer learning. Please check the Transportation website after May 17th for bus stop and time information for your student. We will continue to use the "Here Comes the Bus" app during summer learning to ensure that you have the most up-to-date bus information for your student. Students attending Summer Learning Adaptive program can receive transportation based on their IEP. Please register no later than April 26th to ensure your student's route is in place for the first day of summer school.

Summer Learning School Nutrition
