Frequently Asked Questions

Who can participate in FCS Teaching Museum programs?

The Teaching Museum is a part of Fulton County Schools. Since we use school system funding to support our work, only Fulton County Schools can book programming.

Schools from outside the district, including private and charter schools, can book programs directly with the Teaching Artists. Information on how to contact Teaching Artists and the programs they offer can be found in the Teaching Artist Directory.

Can the public visit FCS Teaching Museum?

The Teaching Museum is currently closed. Please check back in November for more information.

How much do FCS programs cost?

Teaching Museum programs are always FREE for Fulton County Schools. Starting this year, if you are selected for a Teaching Museum program at the museum or local venue then the cost of the buses will be covered by the Teaching Museum.

If you would like to book more programs than your school allowance, the Teaching Artists contact information and list of programs are available in our Teaching Artist Directory so that you can book programs directly with them.

How do Fulton County Schools book programs?

Elementary

All Pre-K through 5th grade levels receive one program per grade level.

On July 22, 2026 the Curriculum Specialist Teacher (CST) at each FCS elementary school was emailed their school’s programming spreadsheet.  Each school’s programming spreadsheet includes information on their preselected and choice programs for each grade level.  Content Specialist have provided schools with recommendations for choice programs. The CST has until August 14, 2026 to request date changes on preselected programming and select programs for grade levels given a choice.

Important: If a pre-selected grade level chooses to opt out of their program, then that program will be given to another school. The grade level will not be able to book a program at their school as a replacement.

Secondary

Middle schools have the option of choosing 2 on campus programs or having their 8th grade participate in the Untying the Knot field trip to the Teaching Museum during the 26-27 school year.

High schools have the option of choosing 1 on campus program or having up to 120 students participate in the Untying the Knot field trip to the Teaching Museum during the 26-27 school year.

In the Spring, Department Chairs were asked to make program recommendations. Then Principals were asked to select an Assistant Principal to be responsible for scheduling their schools’ programs. The booking window for scheduling secondary programming has passed for the 2026-2027 school year.

4. At least 1 week before programming date, communicate with Teaching Artists about setup. You can find the Teaching Artists contact information in the calendar invite.

Off Campus Field Trips

Effective July 1, 2026, revised Regulation IFCB-R(1) Field Trips and Excursions took effect.  Teaching Museum programs are categorized as Day Trips within 75 miles of the school. For more information visit the district’s travel hub.

The required student-to adult ratio for any school-sanction day trip is as follows: Elementary 10:1 and  Secondary 20:1 Important: If your school is sending more chaperones than the above ratios to a Teaching Museum funded trip to a local venue, their admission and transportation must be paid for by the school or the individual. The Teaching Museum allows the school to determine the number of chaperones to programs at our museum location at Spalding Drive Center as long as it does not impact the transportation cost.

4. Communicate with the Teaching Museum and/or venue at least 1 week before program if you are planning on eating lunch as part of the field trip. The Teaching Museum has space at Spalding Drive Center for up to 140 students to eat lunch at one time.

What happens if I need to reschedule or cancel a program?
