UNTYING THE KNOT: THE ENTANGLED HISTORY OF EQUALITY IN EDUCATION

Witness the monumental changes confronting the communities of Fulton County as they navigate the complex process of desegregation. This project combines seven years of research culminating in an exhibit, a documentary and an online learning resource hosted by CANVAS.

A LOOK BACK, A LOOK FORWARD: THE CREEK AND CHEROKEE OF GEORGIA

This exhibit focuses on the Muskogee Creek and Cherokee Nations prior to European arrival. Original and reproduction artifacts provide visitors with an engaging look at their clothing, food, art, music, sports, and housing traditions.

Anne Frank's Attic

This replica room provides the setting for a one-woman performance based on "The Diary of a Young Girl" by Anne Frank. After a 50-minute performance, students learn about the US Homefront during WWII through analyzing primary sources.

African Safari

This exhibit includes masks, instruments, and other functional items created by artists from cultures across the African continent. Hand painted murals and a thatched structure add to this immersive experience. Mama Koku's "Books on Safari" program engages students in African folktales, connecting books, literacy, and storytelling magic.

Courtroom

This replica courtroom gives students the opportunity to learn about the Bill of Rights and civic responsibilities as they relate to our judicial system. The exhibit includes a full-sized judge's bench, a jury box and several volumes of GA and US Laws.

1996 Olympics

This exhibit celebrates the legacy of the 1996 Centennial Olympic Games and the Paralympic Games hosted by the City of Atlanta. Resources in this exhibit include reproduced photographs of athletic contests, events, sports venues, as well as programs and publications issued by the Atlanta Committee for the Olympic Games (ACOG).

One Room Schoolhouse

This immersive exhibit was based on historic photographs from the Fulton County Schools Archives. Desks, ink wells, and student slates evoke Fulton County’s first schools.

Transportation

The Transportation Exhibit highlights the importance of the transportation industry to the communities of Hapeville, College Park and East Point. Items include a model railroad containing elements from all three communities, as well as artifacts that relate to transportation and communication.
