High-Dosage Small Group Tutoring and Extended Learning

Fulton County Schools’ Extended Learning programming provides students with additional academic support through two distinct options: High-Dosage Small Group Tutoring and Extended Learning. These programs are designed to enhance student achievement outside the traditional classroom setting. Participation in either program is determined at the school level, so families interested in these opportunities should contact their child’s school for availability and enrollment details.

High-Dosage Small Group Tutoring (HDSGT) is a research-based intervention aligned and designed to accelerate student learning in literacy and mathematics. Offered during the school day, HDSGT targets students in grades K–12 who are one grade level below proficiency, using a focused 4:1 student-to-tutor ratio. Students receive at least 90 minutes of tutoring each week through either a push-in or pull-out instructional model. The program uses high-quality, standards-aligned instructional materials and tracks progress through daily attendance and performance on district and state assessments, including i-Ready and the Georgia Milestones.

Extended Learning expands academic support beyond the traditional school day, offering skill development before school, after school, or on Saturdays. This program serves students in grades K–12 who are performing two grade levels below proficiency, with a student-to-teacher ratio of 20:1. Extended Learning provides at least 9 to 13 weeks of supplementary instruction in literacy and mathematics, with opportunities to integrate science and social studies. High school students may also participate in credit recovery as part of the program. Student progress is monitored through assessments and daily attendance, to advance academic achievement and support graduation readiness.
