Academics
The important work of the Academics Division is to educate every student to be a responsible, productive citizen.
We know that a high school diploma is critical for today’s students, but a diploma alone is not enough to ensure success after high school. With that in mind, the Academics Division strives to prepare students to succeed on their chosen paths — whether college, career, or military.
Guided by the FCS values of Teamwork, Integrity, and Accountability, we are tasked to achieve the Goals outlined in the district’s Strategic Plan.
Academics' Organizational Structure
The Academics Division organizes itself into two distinct branches to ensure our students graduate prepared to pursue their chosen paths.
Learning and Teaching
- Ensures the district’s curriculum aligns with Georgia’s Standards and the Board of Education's policies
- Supports teachers with the implementation of curriculum, resources, and assessments
- Offers programming that enhances and enriches student learning
Student Support Services
- Ensures that all children have a fair, equal, and significant opportunity to obtain a high-quality education and reach, at a minimum, proficiency on challenging state academic standards and assessments
- Ensures school and district staff are prepared to deliver high quality programming across all areas of Support Services
- Ensures a safe, nurturing, and well-disciplined environment for all our students and employees

Resources for Federally Identified Schools
Academics collaborates with every FCS school to support continuous improvement to the benefit of our students. The details of this work are captured in the school's Strategic Improvement Plan which is available for public review on each school's website.
However, FCS schools in the greatest need of support may also be identified by GaDOE based on federal performance criteria. In these cases, the district teams with GaDOE to deliver additional resources and guidance as well as create more intensive accountability expectations for both district and school staff.
