January 1-5 Deadline - College Applications and Transcripts

  • Students who have a January 1 through January 5, 2024 application deadline need to submit their request for transcripts and recommendation letters by December 2, 2023.

    Winter Break begins, and the school and school offices will be closed, starting at 4:00 pm on December 15, 2023. Offices will remain closed until January 2, so no requests will be handled during that time. Students can continue working on college applications until the college’s deadline, but counselors need the links from colleges or Common App in time to get the documents submitted before the beginning of Winter Break.

    Please keep the following in mind and plan ahead. If you need help, please contact your counselor.

    • Ten (10) school days are needed to process all transcripts, forms, and letter requests. Request all documents ahead of time. The counseling department does not process transcripts, forms, and letters on weekends, after school hours, or on school holidays. 

    • In Common Application (Common App), students must enter their school counselor’s name and email address in order for them to get the link to upload the transcript and any documents that are needed by the college. This needs to be done ASAP and by December 2. 
      • The same holds true for teacher recommendations in Common App. Please enter the recommender's name and email address in the Common App ASAP and by December 2.
      • Complete the FERPA Waiver section in Common App so teachers and counselors can send your documents to colleges.  

    • Non-Common App colleges may need the counselor’s name/email and teacher's name/email address as well to upload the transcript and/or letter of recommendation. Please ensure that you type the email address accurately.

    • Check that the application deadlines are correct. Counselors need these deadlines to be absolutely correct to ensure documents get to the college on time.

    • Counselors need a Senior Biography Sheet from each senior to process transcripts and send letters of recommendation.  A hard copy can be picked up from Bridge West or downloaded at Senior Biography. 

    • Not all colleges require a letter from the counselor. If one is required, then it will be provided. For teacher recommendations, always ask the teacher before putting their name as a recommender. If colleges require teachers' letters, they want from 1-3 maximum. Please do not request a letter from more than three teachers for one single college.

Tips and Reminders

  • Common Application

    Students must put their counselor’s email in the College's Section under FERPA and Recommenders in order for them to do the School Report, which includes sending a transcript or submitting a letter of recommendation. Counselors need ten school days (not including holidays or weekends) to submit this for a student. Failure to do so will result in missed deadlines.

    Common Application Mid-Year Report

    Common Application has the Mid-Year Report Option listed for colleges. If a Mid-Year Report is required then your counselor will complete it for you after the fall semester grades are posted on transcripts. We anticipate this happening mid-January and for all mid-year reports to be completed by the end of January.

    Submitting Applications

    Please be aware that counselors doing their part of your application and teachers writing letters of recommendation are independent processes. They do not interfere with the student submitting their application. All components of the application get to the college at different times. For example, if a teacher is working on a letter of recommendation, it does not hinder the student from submitting their application. The application can be submitted once completed as long as it is submitted by the deadline.

  • Cambridge will no longer use Naviance for sending transcripts to colleges. Seniors should use:

    • Common Application
    • Coalition
    • College websites

    for submitting college applications and requesting transcripts. Many college platforms will allow school counselors to upload high school transcripts.

    Schools that do not allow a counselor to upload a transcript, or if you need a transcript, seniors can request them through Fulton County Schools Record Requests / ScribOrder.

Senior Biography: Due September 15, 2023

  • The responsibility of our counselors in preparing the Secondary School Report or letter of recommendation for colleges and universities is to provide a summary of a senior's achievements beyond the academic record. Conveying unique qualities and potential for growth is not an easy task. Therefore, counselors would appreciate seniors giving an honest estimation of themselves in regard to what they have done and what they have left to do, both in and outside of school.

    This form should be typed or printed neatly in the space provided. Please attach additional sheets if needed. Please return the completed form to the Bridge West office.

Parent/Guardian Response Form: Due September 15, 2023

  • Parents and guardians are invited to provide information that can help staff in writing letters of recommendation and filling out college forms. Completing this form is optional. Please email the completed form to your student's counselor, or a hard copy can be left in Bridge West.
