FCS Celebrates National School Psychology Week

  • Posted 11/7/2022

Schools across the country will be celebrating National School Psychology Week on November 7-11, 2022, with the theme "Together We Shine." This week is about highlighting and showing appreciation for the work of school psychologists and the school-based services they provide in promoting student success!

School psychologists partner with families, teachers, school administrators, and other professionals to create safe, healthy, and supportive learning environments for all students. They apply expertise in mental health, learning, and behavior to help students succeed academically, socially, behaviorally, and emotionally. School psychologists have extensive knowledge in the areas of learning strategies, interventions, behavior, mental health, data-based decision making, evaluations, and crisis prevention and response. They collaborate with school teams to provide guidance and recommendations to support struggling students and diverse learners.

According to the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP), this year's theme, "Together We Shine," honors the hope we feel after several challenging years and emphasizes the power of our collective efforts to overcome difficulties to ensure that all our students can thrive in school, at home, and in life. While we all have our own individual strengths and attributes, we shine even brighter when we all bring our ideas and actions together to strengthen the community. Through collaboration, we can empower students and adults to find purpose and possibility, all while fostering resilience.

Monday Celebrate the many ways school psychologists help students shine through expressing gratitude with a simple conversation, thank you note, phone call, or email!
Tuesday Share a school psychologist's superpowers that help students, families, and the school community shine through a shout out at a staff meeting, weekly newsletter, or on social media!
Wednesday Visit the National Association of School Psychologists website to learn more about the role of a school psychologist and advocate for more of their practices that ensure all students shine!
Thursday Ask a school psychologist about the systems wide work they do to promote success of ALL students!
Friday Take some time to connect with the people and supports that empower and rejuvenate your ability to shine!
