Happy New Year, Raiders! I hope you were able to enjoy a restful and rejuvenating holiday break with your family!
As you have learned by now, due to the rise in Covid-19 cases, Fulton County Schools students will begin the second semester in Remote Learning starting tomorrow and continuing for the rest of this week. Our teachers returned to work today and are now working hard to develop their remote learning lessons for this week. Teachers will post their Remote Lesson expectations to their websites this week so that parents may better support and monitor student engagement.
Our students need to get prepared for Remote Learning as well. Students should fully charge their devices today as well as run any needed updates. Please encourage your child to prepare an appropriate workspace for this week.
We will be following our regular bell schedule for this week’s Remote Learning. Students should log into Teams at the beginning of each period to interact directly with their teacher, have their attendance recorded, and access the lesson. (Bell Schedule & Directions for Teams attached). Students should expect to engage in both synchronous and asynchronous lessons during Remote Learning. If required to turn on the camera for the lesson, students should blur their background.
Please know that students will not be expected to participate in Advisement (5th period) any day this week. Students will be able to use this time from 12:09 – 12:39 for a screen break each day.
For most of our students, this transition to Remote Learning and using Microsoft Teams will be familiar as this is the platform that we used all last year. However, we do realize that this may be new and different for some of our students who are new to AHS this year. Please know that we will work with our students and assist all students with being able to participate in Remote Learning.
As such, please access the link below to let us know if you need a device and/or if you do not have reliable internet access. We need to collect this information so that we may develop a plan for students with needs. The earliest that we will be able to issue any devices is Wednesday morning, however. Our sincere apologies to our new students for this obstacle.

During Remote Learning, I will communicate using my morning phone message each morning at 8:15 am. Parents, please allow your student to hear my phone message each morning as it will be the best way to ensure students stay informed with expectations and changes that may occur. These recorded messages are also posted in Teams, and the written transcripts are also posted to the AHS website.
Please note that all out-of-season sports workouts and all extracurricular activities are suspended for this week. For in-season sports, please follow the directions and guidance of your head coach.
While this is certainly not the way any of us wanted to begin the second semester, I am confident that our community will once again pull together to ensure we continue with high-quality teaching and learning. Thanks for your flexibility and support.
With Raider Pride,
Shannon N. Kersey
