Community Letter 2021

  •  July 28, 2021

    Dear Gullatt Families,

This summer was met with anticipation of the coming school year.  We have looked forward to the 21-22 school year because we are returning to 100% in-person learning! This year also marks our 45th Anniversary as a school. We have missed having all our students in the building every day. Thank you in advance for your continued support of C.H. Gullatt ES. We are committed to providing the children of Union City with the best opportunity to be successful and prepare them to meet society's challenges as we transition back to in-person learning.

Open House is August 5. Please feel free to drop in anytime between 1 pm – 6 pm to meet your child's teacher and learn about the upcoming school year. We ask that you limit the number of people you bring to Open House to help us stay physically distant. While at Open House, verify your student will get home on the first day, check, and triple-check with the teacher.

The first day of school is Monday, August 9. All students will continue to receive free breakfast and lunch. Students can report to class as early as 7:10 am but not before 6:45 am.  All students arriving between 6:45 and 7:10 will remain in the cafeteria until the bell rings. As we transition to having an open-door policy, we ask that all parents please note the following.  Masks are encouraged while in the building.  One parent can escort students to class on the first day. After the first day, we will limit visits to the classrooms. Please be respectful of this process so that we can continue to allow visitors safely.  Please be sure to park in a parking space and refrain from using the fire lanes.

Expect delays with dismissal for the first week.  Our process ensures that we account for every student.  Students' classroom assignments will be listed on posters throughout the school.  Staff in blue or gold shirts can assist you.

Students who ride the bus are still required to wear masks.  While masks are not required in the school building, they are strongly encouraged for all non-vaccinated people.  If you want your students to wear masks, please provide a mask each day.  Otherwise, no mask mandate will be enforced at this time.  We will continue to follow the guidance of the CDC and Fulton County Schools.  I will continue to update you as things change.

As things go back to "normal," we are also aware that the coronavirus continues to threaten our health and safety.  We will continue the safety measures implemented last school year to ensure the safety of our staff and students.  High-frequency areas will continue to be cleaned and sanitized throughout the day; hand sanitizer stations are positioned throughout the building to ensure easy access and provide students with time to wash their hands often.  We will limit congregating in large groups and continue to monitor the health of our students and staff.  We ask that if students show any symptoms of illness, you keep them home for the safety of the others.  Remote learning and quarantining classes will still be the response to positive COVID cases.

Students can participate in enrichment and intervention from 7:10-8:10 each day.  Please consider allowing your students to ride the school bus or bring students no later than 7:15 so that all students can participate in the growth hour each day.

We encourage all students to wear uniforms.  The Gullatt uniform is royal blue or yellow/gold polo/shirts and khaki bottoms.  Dress-down days are Wednesday and Friday.  On Wednesday, students can wear college T-shirts and sweatshirts, and on Friday, students can wear spirit wear.

We will continue our commitment and partnership with the local PTA.  Our goal is to increase PTA membership and participation. We hope that more families will continue participating in PTA through membership and involvement in our school community.  Please consider completing the volunteer orientation to become a school volunteer.

We will have quarterly, Principal Chats this year. However, my door is always open, and I welcome your input. Please feel free to stop in or call to discuss any concerns, suggestions, or ideas to help our school continue to make great strides!

APEC Family Foundation Fund, Inc. will continue to provide after-school tutorials and enrichment for the students at C.H. Gullatt ES. This year, APEC will offer scholarships and provide tuition breaks based on income.  GAGAPS are also welcome. For more information, visit

Our primary goals for the upcoming school year will be safety, to improve our students' proficiency in reading and math, and build positive relationships with our students, parents, and community stakeholders. As many students have been at home for the past year, we will increase our focus on Social-Emotional Learning. We ask for your support in reinforcing school rules as well as the golden rule.  Insist that your student complete homework each evening and set up routines at home that support the school environment.

I look forward to a fantastic school year with you and your students.
