The Fulton County Schools Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl (HRRB) is open to all public, private and charter schools located in Fulton County, Georgia.  Eligible to compete are Elementary School students in 4th & 5th grades, Middle School students in 6th - 8th grades and High School students in 9th - 12th grades.  The reading lists for Elementary and Middle have 10 books each taken from the 2021-2022 Georgia Children’s Book Award Nominees. The High School reading list is taken from the 2021-2022 Georgia Peach Teen Award Nominees and consists of 20 books. 

Due to concerns about COVID-19 and potential local health protocols limiting their ability to successfully host an in person Reading Bowl, the State Helen Ruffin Reading Committee has decided to continue with the virtual format for this year’s Regional and State Reading Bowls.  Also, in response to comments from last year’s post Reading Bowl survey, the State HRRB Committee recognized the need for a standardized quiz platform for use throughout the state.  Starting this year, the State HRRB Committee will be using Buzzin Live – an online buzzer system specifically created for virtual academic challenges.

In order to make sure that the winners of the Fulton County Schools Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl will be able to successfully compete in the Regional and State competitions, Fulton County School will follow suit and have the Fulton County Schools 2022 HRRB held virtually using the Buzzin Live online software. 

The Fulton County Schools VIRTUAL Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl will be held on January 29, 2022.

We are currently working out the final details with the State HRRB Committee and will post registration information and procedures by the first week in October.
