Doretha Melton

Mrs.Doretha Melton serves as is the 6th Grade Assistant Principal at Woodland Middle School.

Doretha Melton’s career in education began in South Carolina where she served as a Middle School Special Education Teacher. Prior to moving to Atlanta, Georgia she served as a Middle School Social Studies Teacher in Charlotte, North Carolina. She has been a dedicated educator and member of Fulton County Schools since June 2000 where she has served as a Social Studies Teacher, Administrative Assistant, and Assistant Principal at Creekside High School, Sandtown Middle School, and Woodland Middle School.

Doretha Melton promotes an educational environment that is conducive to learning at the highest academic level and strives to ensure all students are provided an opportunity to learn in a safe and orderly environment. She is passionate about working with students and the community, and making a positive impact on the students, parents, stakeholders, and teachers at Woodland Middle School.

Doretha Melton is a native of South Carolina. She received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology from Charleston Southern University, a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Cambridge College, and an Educational Specialist Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Lincoln Memorial University.

Dionne Young

 

Mrs. Dionne Young serves as is the 7th Grade Assistant Principal at Woodland Middle School.

Dionne Young brings an array of pedagogical experience and forward-thinking leadership skills. She is passionate in serving as a catalyst for students and instructors as they become critical thinkers and innovators within our growing society. While serving in the capacity of an Assistant Principal, she successfully models and implements effective systems that have a positive impact on behavior and student performance.  Additionally, she coordinates and monitors professional learning community sessions, during which she offers instructional comprehension strategies, models differentiated lessons, and motivates her colleagues to integrate 21st century technology in the classroom.  Mrs. Young also serves as a mentor to rising educators and leaders, providing support for classroom management, behavioral strategies, RTI interventions, and professional development.

With the rise of each day, Dionne is dedicated to serving as a guide for our current and next generation of leaders in the education system. She is committed to always remembering her experience in the classroom while working towards accomplishing county goals.

Mrs. Amy Robinson

Mrs. Amy Robinson serves as is the 8th Grade Assistant Principal at Woodland Middle School.

Mrs. Amy Williams Robinson is the new 8th Grade Assistant Principal. She has served Fulton County Schools for six years, with four of these years being at Woodland Middle School. Before entering education, Mrs. Robinson served for the United States Armed Forces for over ten years. Mrs. Robinson earned her bachelor’s degree in Middle Grades Education from Clayton State University, her master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Valdosta State University, and she is pursuing a doctoral degree in Curriculum and Instruction at Columbus State University. 

Mrs. Robinson has experienced the realm of education from many lenses, to include English-Language Arts teacher, English-Language Arts Department Chair, Grade Level Chair, Multi-Classroom Leader, and School Improvement Coach. Many of her roles have positively impacted the Woodland family, as her role in creating and implementing the intervention block contributed to a significant increase in student growth and achievement. Her work helped Woodland Middle School overcome its placement on the state’s turnaround list.  

Her commitment to student success, the education field, and the community is evident, as she was awarded Professional of the Year at McNair Middle School in 2021. Mrs. Robinson is a climate and culture champion, whose work with social-emotional learning has positively impacted the lives of students.

Mrs. Robinson is an advocate for students, and she believes that all students can achieve at high levels. She is committed to building positive relationships amongst all stakeholders, building a culture of data driven practice, and establishing a foundation for student achievement and continuous growth. 

Mrs. Robinson is happy to reunite with the Woodland Family, as its newest Assistant Principal.

Schredrick Austin

 6th Grade Instructional Dean

Schredrick Austin is looking forward to another incredible school year! He loves to inspire and encourage students here at Woodland Middle School to be the best they can be in and out of the classroom!

For the 2020-2021 academic school year he is the 6th Grade Academy Dean of Students at Woodland Middle School. He has begun his third-year educational campaign for Fulton County Schools. Previously, Mr. Austin worked as an assistant principal, in Atlanta Public Schools, in Atlanta, Ga for six years.

He grew up in Atlanta, Ga. and attended schools in Atlanta Public School District, graduating from Charles Lincoln Harper High School. He received his undergraduate degree from Clark Atlanta University in Physical Education. He holds an educational leadership degree from Cambridge College. This specialty area informs his leadership and teaching approach, as he views literacy as the foundation of academic progress.

Mr. Austin views a collaborative school environment as the key to creating successful teachers and students. He believes partnerships with parents and community partners are essential to enriching the experience at Woodland Middle School.

During his free time, Mr. Austin enjoys spending time with family, golfing and boating life.

LaVar Hickerson

7th Grade Instructional Dean

LaVar Hickerson has served, in education, for 15 years, which all 15 years have been served at Woodland Middle School in different capacities. His career has consisted of as a Social Studies teacher, Social Studies department chair and professional development facilitator. He’s also worked as the RTI Behavior Specialist and currently as the Dean of Students for 7th grade. He has earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology, Masters in Secondary Education and Educational Specialist in Educational Leadership.

A little-known fact about Mr. Hickerson is that he enjoys working out, writing music and directing choirs. Mr. Hickerson has had the opportunity to coach basketball and volleyball at Woodland Middle School and achieved the accomplishment of having an undefeated season, in volleyball. Mr. Hickerson was also Teacher of the Year for Woodland Middle School during the 2012-2013 school year and Professional of the year during the 2019-2020 school year.

His educational philosophy is he believes that all children have the ability to learn if given the opportunity to receive a quality education through a partnership between the school and the community. Every child is unique and with guidance and support, they can use their special gift to make a difference in themselves and our world.

Brandon Davis

8th Grade Instructional Dean

Mr. Brandon Davis is the 8th grade Dean of Students and serves as the Response Teacher Intervention (RTI) Specialist. He primarily supports the science department ensuring that learning experiences are crafted where rigor and relevance are present during instruction and relationships are established with all stakeholders to uphold high expectations and foster innovation throughout the school.

Brandon Davis, a native of Atlanta, is currently in his sixth year of service as an educator. Mr. Davis’s career in education began in Clayton County Public Schools (CCPS) where he served as Middle School Science Teacher. During his three-year tenure at CCPS, Mr. Davis was a recipient of the Georgia Power’s New Teacher Assistance Grant, Sixth Grade level Chairperson and RTI Chairperson. He has been an exemplar educator in Fulton County Schools since 2018 where he has served as a Vanchise Member for Vanguard, Science Teacher and Science Department Chairperson at Woodland Middle School. As a dynamic team player, Mr. Davis contributed to the record of measurable student growth in achievement on the science EOG with an 18% increase from the 2017-2018 school year to the 2018-2019 school year. In addition, Mr. Davis increased students’ reading proficiency levels from 0.5 to 1.0 grade level through Woodland’s Infinite Literacy Program.

Brandon Davis is a proud first generation college student where he obtained a Bachelors of Science Degree and Masters of Education Degree in Middle Grades Education from Albany State University. Mr. Davis also received an Educational Specialist Degree in Middle Grades Education from Georgia Southwestern State University and an Educational Specialist Degree in Educational Leadership from Georgia College & State University.
