School History Through the Years...
-
In the 1890’s, the city of Roswell established the Roswell Public School. Originally, the new school on Mimosa Boulevard housed both elementary and high school through tenth grade. When Milton County and Roswell were annexed into Fulton County in 1932, students in the tenth and eleventh grades traveled to attend either Milton High School in Alpharetta or North Fulton High in Atlanta.
Eventually, the old two-story brick portion of the building on Mimosa Boulevard was demolished and in 1949 a brand-new wing was opened to house Roswell Senior High School. The school enrollment was just 140 students with eight teachers. The first 12th grade class of Roswell High School proudly graduated in 1951.
A new school building opened in 1954 and the high school students moved from the previous Mimosa Boulevard location to their new address on Alpharetta Street. The award-winning school housed 400 students who had access, for the first time, to science labs, industrial arts classrooms, and dedicated facilities for the arts.
Approximately 2000 students were enrolled when the current Roswell High School facility on King Road opened in 1990. Serving as a valuable resource for the Roswell community, the school continues to this day to enjoy a close relationship with the city of Roswell, as well as many local businesses and civic organizations.
