What is the purpose of data warehousing? The data warehouse enables users to access reports that help them understand relationships between sets of facts. This will supply information for data driven decisions.

What is data warehousing? A data warehouse is a large database populated with data from different sources to a common format for use by reporting tools. Phase I of the FCBOE warehouse contains school, student, staff, and financial data. Phase I reports will focus on student and test data.

What can warehousing provide that we don't already have? Many of our data sources are in different formats and in separate files for different years. The data warehouse will enable cross year comparisons of data from multiple systems.

Will the warehoused information be easy to use? Warehoused data will initially be available in static report format for easy viewing by users. Training on query/report design will be made available as needed.

Who will have access to the data in the warehouse? The data warehouse is a Fulton County Schools resource. All decision makers will reap the benefits from the data warehouse. Initially, reports from the warehouse will guide planners at all levels: principals and central office administrators. Future releases will provide reports to teachers.

Where will the data come from? The warehouse will be populated with data from a variety of sources including SASI, FIPPS, FAMIS, standardized test vendors, and other sources.

What is it to be used for? School level and central office administrators , along with strategic planning teams will use data for informed decision making and validation of instructional program effectiveness.

How much will it cost? There are two types of funding required: Startup, which has been completed, and Ongoing, which will include personnel and additional product licenses as needed.

How many years of data will be included? The initial data load to the warehouse began with data from the 1997-1998 school year. Most items currently have historical data for four years. The objective is to be able to maintain K-12 history on all students.

What training will be available? Reports can be viewed, via common applications, through the website, which will have instructions for use. Customized training will be provided to user groups as needed.

How will this improve education? Decisions concerning instruction must be based on accurate data analysis. Better decisions will be made to improve student achievement and instructional processes. This analysis will help lead to the elimination of ineffective programs and adoption of more effective programs.

Will the data be prescribed or will schools be able to generate their own? Reports will be generated with the input of district and school personnel, as well as analysis of strategic planning needs. There will be a forum provided to define data analysis needs and provide feedback to existing reports and data.

Where will users go for help? Personnel assigned to maintain the warehouse and website will be available to assist you. In addition, key personnel with strategic planning resources will be identified for your assistance.

Will individual principals and teachers have access to the data? All Fulton County personnel will have access to the Data Analysis website and to summary level reports. The school principal and/or designee will have access to reports containing student details.

Who will be responsible for accuracy? The warehouse will include data from many sources. Those responsible for the data entry and input in all operational systems will be responsible for accuracy. These include teachers, data clerks, IST's, CST's, Student Information Coordinators, Principals. Data analysis is only as good as the data provided from the operational systems and those responsible for data entry.

Will the state use data for accountability? The Fulton County Schools data warehouse will not be a source of data submitted to any state agency. Most data, which has been loaded to the data warehouse during Phase I, has already been submitted to various state and federal agencies from multiple operational systems.

What are the differences between the state and Fulton County data systems? The state data warehouse compares data, system to system, within the state of Georgia. Our data warehouse will contain data from Fulton County Schools only.

Will we be able to see trends and patterns? Yes, data can be compared across years.

Will data in the warehouse be used against my child? No, reports generated through the warehouse will look at group data. Federal, state, and local laws and regulations protect confidentiality of information about any individual student.

Can students get data about teachers? No, students will not have access to the data warehouse.

Will data collected be used to hire or fire teachers? No. Employee evaluation confidentiality laws protect evaluation data.
