The River Trail Middle School Orchestra is an organization that is committed to high standards in excellence. Established in the fall of 2001 when RTMS first opened, the orchestra program is comprised of students who have committed themselves to a tremendous amount of work and dedication at the same time having fun.

Currently, the orchestra program totals about 317 students and are split into 3 main orchestras: 6th Grade Orchestra, Concert Orchestra, and Chamber Orchestra . Since its inception, the River Trail Middle School Orchestra students have been active in the music community including: accepted to Fulton Honor Orchestra, participation in Solo and Ensemble, and several who have been accepted into All-State Orchestra . More recent, the RTMS Concert Orchestra has won the Silver Star Award at the 2009 Southern Star Music Festival and the RTMS Chamber Orchestra has won the Gold Star Award and won in the Overall HS/MS Orchestra Division of the Festival.

In addition, many students in the River Trail Middle School Orchestra program have also been in part of the top Atlanta area orchestras including:

-Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra
-Metropolitan Youth Symphony Orchestra
-Orchestra Atlanta
-Emory Youth Symphony Orchestra

-Buckhead Youth Orchestra
and many others….

The River Trail Middle School Orchestra, along with the River Trail Middle School Band and Chorus, is proud to be part of the music department of the Fulton County School System. For its eighth consecutive year, the Fulton County School System was named the “Top 100 Music Areas in the United States" from a survey sponsored by American Music Conference, Music Educators National Conference, the Music Teachers National Association, the National School Boards Association, VH1, and Yamaha Corporation.
