Performance Opportunities

HBMS Chamber Orchestra

This is an auditioned group that will meet on Monday mornings from 8:00 – 8:25. Rehearsals are open until audition dates and times are announced. HBMS Chamber Orchestra will perform as a separate group in our concerts, and students may be selected to represent HBMS in other public performances to be determined.

GMEA All State Orchestra

Georgia Music Educators Association sponsors the All-State Orchestra event every March in Savannah, GA. To be selected for All-State Orchestra, students must pass two rounds of auditions: the first in late October/early November and the second in mid-January. Students selected to perform in the All-State Orchestra are considered among the best performers on their respective instrument throughout the state of Georgia.

GMEA Solo & Ensemble Festival

Each year in the Fall the Georgia Music Educators Association sponsors this event which is an opportunity for students to form small groups of 2 or more, or to perform a solo with piano accompaniment before a judge to receive comments and a rating. This event is a great way for students to gain experience performing in a different setting than in Large Group Orchestras, whereby they gain independence from a teacher/conductor and learn to work more closely as a team or as partners in performance.

Fulton County Youth Symphony Orchestra (FYO)

The Fulton County Orchestra Program includes both an elementary and a middle school Youth Orchestra for students to participate in outside of the school day. This is an auditioned group that consistently earns Superior ratings at Large Group Performance Evaluation, under the direction of Barbara Colaianni. FYO meets every Tuesday evening from 6:30 – 8:00 after school and performs at least twice a year. Membership is by teacher recommendation – see Ms. Kurylo for an application.
