CHAPTER 6

Root Position Partwriting

This chapter deals with partwriting root position triads in four – and  three-part textures, presented in that order.  You are encouraged to use the chalkboard and compare your work with the others.

To emphasize the musical side of your exercises, we may use instrumental trios or quartets to form an ensemble to play the parts that you have written.  Since our class is so diverse, most of our exercises will be sung (usage of voice instead).  The last few pages of the chapter introduce the student to instrumental ranges and transpositions to facilitate such activities.
