HONOR BAND AUDITION INFORMATION

 

                                    

      Audition Date:  Monday, November 2, 2009 at Centennial HS

 

                                     Event Date:  November 9 - 10, 2009

                                             Place:  (Johns Creek High School)

 

            ** There will be a $5.00 application fee (per student). 

 

AUDITIONS:

All students will be auditioned for participation and placement.  Auditions will be held on  Monday, November 2, 2009 at Centennial High School from 4:30pm- 7:00pm.  

 

Students are encouraged to carefully observe the “audition sheet” so that they understand how their audition will be assessed. The audition is two-part: there is a separate panel of judges for scales and for sight reading.

 

This year, the Honor Event will take place on Monday, November 9 (7pm-9pm) and Tuesday, November 10 (rehearsals -10:00am- 4:30pm; Concert at 7pm) at Johns Creek High School (tentative site). The Concert is free and open to the public.

 

Wind auditions will consist of two parts:

Scales should NOT be transposed. 

Examples:  Clarinets start on “D” not E to play the D scale; ASX start on “F” not D to play the F scale; Horns start on “Eb” not Bb to play the Eb scale, etc, etc…  Again - - - DO NOT TRANSPOSE SCALES!

 

1.     SCALES with ARPEGGIOS:  D, G, F, Bb, Eb, Ab; multiple octaves will count.  Rhythm is according to GMEA format.

 

2.      SIGHT READING (one selection)

Rhythm, tempo (quarter = 132), and scoring will be same as 9-10 all state scales (reference GMEA website) Scoring: 1 pt. per octave earned ascending, 1 pt. per octave descending, and 1 pt. for the arpeggio. All eight notes in each octave must be correct to receive credit for that portion of the scale.  Arpeggios earn a total of 1 point.  Example: 1-octave scale and arpeggio is worth 3 pts., 2-octave worth 5 pts, etc.  To receive full credit, ALL notes must be played correct.
