The Northview High School Orchestra program, under the direction of Tim Aucoin, hails from Johns Creek , Georgia. The orchestra is an integral component of a very successful school community - opening its doors in the fall of 2002 under the leadership of principal Peter F. Zervakos. Over the past five years, the members of this ensemble have been etching out a reputation in the Atlanta metro string community.
In addition to its regularly scheduled concert performances, the orchestras have performed at regional festivals, Disney World and Universal Studios, school and community events, and were a featured performer at the Georgia Music Educators Association Conference in Savannah , Georgia in January of 2004 and again in 2008. The Northview Chamber Orchestra has also performed at the Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic in Chicago in December of 2004. In its Midwest Clinic performance, the Chamber Orchestra was chosen to perform the only piece commissioned by the clinic – “Lux Aurorum” by Eric Whitacre. In 2006, the Northview Chamber Orchestra represented the State of Georgia in Austria and the Czech Republic for "Mozart: 2006" - a 250th Celebration. Northview High School has twice been named a “National Grammy Signature School Finalist.” The program includes three string orchestras, a symphonic orchestra, and a chamber ensemble component which provides music for events throughout the year. We also offer AP Music Theory to support the entire music program.
Northview High School 's Chamber Orchestra includes students who participate in the Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra, the Buckhead Youth Orchestra, the Metropolitan Youth Symphony Orchestra, the Emory Youth Orchestra, the Ludwig Symphony Orchestra, and the Georgia Youth Symphony Orchestra. Each year Northview Orchestra students are well-represented in the Georgia All-State Orchestras and the Georgia Governor's Honors Program. Northview Orchestras consistently receive superior ratings at the Georgia Music Educators Association Large Group Performance Evaluations.
The Fine Arts Department at Northview High School is very dynamic and includes 3 Concert Bands, a Marching Band, 2 Jazz Ensembles, 5 Choral Ensembles, a Jazz Vocal Ensemble, a complete sequence of Drama activities including Technical Theater, and a Visual Arts Department that includes 2-D (sequence of drawing, painting, photography), 3-D (sequence of sculpture, ceramics, jewelry), and AP 3-D and 2-D. We are very proud of our outstanding Fine Arts Department which is supported by the Northview High School Fine Arts Association - an umbrella parent organization.
