The Northview High School Orchestra Department has been incredibly industrious the past few months. We had successful and entertaining Fall and Winter programs that featured all four ensembles. We had five students – Jean Kang, Sam Lee, Boyang Niu, Tinayi Lu, and Shuo Qian who were chosen to audition for the final round of the Governor's Honors Program (results will be back in April.) The Northview Orchestras were well represented in the Fulton County Honor Orchestra. The students participating in this ensemble were; Sarah Appeadu, Mackenzie Benson, Jennifer Chen, Matthew Chou , Daniel Chyan, Miki Hayashi, Katie Hogan, Patrick Kim, Tami Kim, Julia Lee, Elise Lee, Sam Lee, Austin Moon, Shuo Qian, Suraj Ravi, Varun Ravi, and Todd Zhen. Three Northview Orchestra students auditioned for and were accepted to participate in the Spivey Hall Chamber Orhcestra Workshop – Jennifer Chen, Elise Lee, and Cameron Ernst.

We had a tremendous result from the Georgia All-State Orchestra auditions. The following students will participate in these ensembles in Savannah , GA in March: Jennifer Chen, James Cho, Matthew Chou, Daniel Chyan, Miki Hayashi, Andy Huang, Jean Kang, Brian Kim, Joonho Kim, Patrick Kim, Elise Lee, Julia Lee, Sam Lee, Jennifer Lu, Tianyi Lu, Boyang Niu, Shuo Qian, Varun Ravi, Kevin Sun, Karen Xiao, Todd Zhen, and Dianna Zheng. Also, these students were named as alternates: Joonho Kim, Alvin Lee, and Stan Chen.

In addition, Daniel Chyan, 11th grade violinist, was named the Concertmaster of the 11/12 Grade All-State Orchestra. Essentially, this means that Daniel was deemed the best high school violinist in the State of Georgia for 2008-2009.

And finally, the orchestras just performed for the Georgia Music Educators Association Large Ensemble Performance Evaluation (aka Orchestra Festival.) The students knocked this one out of the park. All of the ensembles demonstrated the musical skills and prowess that make Northview the place to be for string playing. The ensembles performing were the Chamber Orchestra, Philharmonia, Concert Orchestra, and the String Orchestra. All of these groups received Superior ratings and represented our school in an exemplary manner.

*The Northview Orchestras will be traveling to Universal-Orlando during Spring Break 2009. The trip is open to all orchestra students. More information to come!
