Uniform Fee

Each Orchestra member will be responsible for a rental/purchase fee associated with the formal concert attire. The exact amount will be available at the beginning of the school year (prices change).

Orchestra Lab Fee

Each orchestra member is asked to provide a $50.00 orchestra lab fee. This fee will be used to defray expenses beyond those covered by the school allocated budget. Such items may include: sheet music, equipment (instruments/audio/computer technology), clinicians, workshops, transportation for certain events, and other items deemed necessary by the director.

* Parents: The Orchestra Program at NHS is all-inclusive. It is never our intention to exclude a student from an activity for financial reasons. There will be fund raising opportunities for each student to raise money for activities. In the event that you find yourself in a financial hardship, please contact the director (this contact will remain in strict confidence.) There are often different ways of approaching difficulties of this nature. However, it is your responsibility to inform the director of the situation so that a timely solution may be considered. It may not be possible to resolve every difficulty, but we will do our best.

Instruments

All instruments should be cleaned for each performance. Every Orchestra member should have, in their case, the necessary tools and cleaning materials needed to keep their instrument in its best playing condition. All instruments are to be stored in the instrument storage room, in their cases, with the tops closed and latched. Take care of the instruments. They are delicate and expensive. NEVER play another person's instrument. This includes percussion equipment.

Instrument Rental Fee

Students using school-owned instruments shall complete a County user form, have parental consent, and pay a nonrefundable usage fee of $35.00 per school year (this is about what it costs to rent an instrument PER MONTH from a music store). Instruments will be checked in and inspected at the end of the school year. Any damage to a school-owned instrument shall be paid for by the student. Lost instruments will be replaced by the student who checked out the instrument.

ALL REGULAR MAINTENANCE OF ALL INSTRUMENTS (cleaning, strings, fallen soundposts/bridges, etc..) shall be supplied by the student. Routine (routine meaning not caused by any type of abuse) repairs for school owned instruments will be taken care of through the school.

Music

Orchestra members will be issued individual folders of all music to be performed. Never use anyone else's music without permission from the Director. This helps with music library accountability. All music is to be kept in the appropriate music locker (in the music rehearsal hall) when not in use. NO MUSIC IS TO BE KEPT IN THE INSTRUMENT STORAGE ROOM.

•  All music may be obtained from the librarians. Method books can be checked out from the music library; however, it is better if you purchase your own set of method books. NEVER use ink to mark original music.

Music damaged or lost will be paid for by the liable person(s) at the following rate:

Orchestra ......................... $2.00 per copy

Solo & Ensemble ................... Full value of part

Method books ...................... Full value of book

THE MUSIC LIBRARY IS OFF LIMITS TO EVERYONE EXCEPT THE LIBRARIANS AND DIRECTORS. PLEASE ASK FOR ASSISTANCE IF YOU NEED MUSIC OR RECORDINGS.
