Does your school’s media program shine? Does your media specialist exemplify the best of the profession by being collaborative, innovative, knowledgeable, and supportive of teaching and learning?
The two state school library media professional organizations, Georgia Library Media Association (GLMA) and Georgia Association for Instructional Technology (GAIT), co-sponsor the Georgia School Library Media Specialist of the Year Award. This annual program recognizes K-12 library professionals whose services have resulted in exemplary library media programs.
Nominees must be currently assigned to a building level library media center, have three or more years of experience as a library media specialist, and be a member of one of the sponsoring organizations.
System winners will be eligible for district judging by the sponsoring organizations and district winners are eligible for judging at the state level. Fulton County’s own Marie Yelvington, library media specialist at Centennial High School, came out on top of the metro district and was recognized for excellence at the COMO XXI (Council of Media Organizations) professional development conference in Columbus, Georgia.
School administrators are asked to nominate notable library media candidates to the school system's Media Services Department by February 5. The application form, to be completed by the nominated media specialist, is available at www2.fultonschools.org/dept/medsvcs/.
