Construction celebrated at Feldwood elementary school site
Sunday, October 18, 2009

The day was rainy and overcast, but it didn't dampen the spirits of those who gathered to celebrate a new elementary school being built in College Park. On October 15, a groundbreaking ceremony was held at the construction site on Feldwood Road.

Designed to house up to 850 students in kindergarten through fifth grade, the new school is part of a large-scale school construction effort funded through the one-penny educational sales tax, SPLOST (Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax). The building was designed by Collins Cooper Carusi Architects Inc., and is being built by Evergreen Construction.

Although site work already has begun, the ceremony allowed school system officials, civic leaders and community members to gather and celebrate its construction. The public was able to view architectural designs and hear about the school’s planned features.

The school is set to open in August 2010.
