Seasonal flu shots encouraged by health officials and system leaders
Sunday, September 27, 2009

The Fulton County School System encourages all students, their families and staff members to get a flu shot this year. On September 21, the Fulton County Schools Administrative Center hosted its annual flu shot clinic. Staff members voluntarily lined up to receive their seasonal flu immunization, including Superintendent Cindy Loe (standing, far left) and Board Member Catherine Maddox (seated).

Even though the H1N1/swine flu virus has dominated news headlines, the seasonal flu is an equally serious health threat. The Centers for Disease Control estimates that between 5 to 20 percent of the American population gets the flu annually and more than 200,000 people are hospitalized from flu-related complications.
