The Fulton County School System is asking parents to “Be There” for their children this year. On August 27, Fulton Superintendent Cindy Loe joined with other metro Atlanta superintendents to show support of a national campaign aimed at inspiring parents to become more involved in their children’s education.
Be There is a research-based, multimedia campaign that, through compelling images and words, suggests that parents can easily connect with their children during the ordinary moments in life. The campaign is given to school districts at no charge, except for optional printing of their personalized materials. Be There posters are displayed at all Fulton County schools to remind parents of how easily they can share extraordinary moments while doing normal everyday activities, such as riding in the car, shopping for groceries or even doing the laundry. Schools also have video that they can show at open houses, PTA meetings, curriculum nights and other school gatherings.
Be There started three years ago as a pilot project in Volusia County, Florida. Since then, it has growing exponentially throughout the U.S. and Canada. A number of state and national education organizations support the campaign.
Fulton joined Atlanta Public Schools, Clarke, Cobb, DeKalb, Douglas, Floyd, Gwinnett, Lamar, Meriwether, Newton, Rockdale, Troup and Walton counties in the campaign launch at WSB television studios. Eighteen other school districts in Georgia are also involved in the Be There campaign.
