August 11 Work Session
The Fulton County Board of Education will meet August 11 for a work session at the school systems Administrative Center. The meeting begins with the first of three millage rate hearings at 11 a.m. followed by a closed executive session at 11:15 a.m. to discuss land, legal and/or personnel items. At 1 p.m., a workshop will be held to update board members on curriculum, transportation, construction, enrollment/school choice, health services, AYP, human resources and fringe benefits issues.
Also at the August 11 work session, items from the August 18 board meeting agenda will be reviewed and discussed, with action taken the following week at Dunwoody Springs Charter Elementary School. The second millage rate hearing begins at 6 p.m.
August 18 Board Meeting
The August 18 meeting begins with a closed executive session at 3 p.m. to discuss land, legal and/or personnel items, followed by a third public hearing on the FY10 millage rate at 4 p.m. The board will adopt the millage rate at 4:30 p.m. and then begin the formal meeting. Board meetings are usually scheduled for Thursdays but this meeting was rescheduled from August 20 to August 18 to coincide with the millage rate hearing and adoption.
Agendas are posted to the BoardDocs web site at least 24 hours in advance of each meeting.
School Board Recognitions and Public Comment Both Meetings
Each month, the school board recognizes outstanding students, staff and schools that have been honored at the state, national or international level. This activity begins at 6:30 p.m. for both meetings whenever recognitions are scheduled and is followed by a public comment session.
Online Agenda and Videostreaming
The school system uses BoardDocs, a program that makes the school board agenda and all supporting documents available online. The meeting locations are equipped with wireless technology that allows access to the Internet and the BoardDocs agenda site; however, those visiting with laptops must have supporting wireless software in order to be connected to the wireless network.
School board meetings can be watched live from a computer screen using special viewing software, such as Windows Media Player or RealPlayer. Audio and video recordings of the meetings are archived to the videostreaming web site within 48 hours of the meeting.
All meetings of the board are open to the public unless designated as executive session, where the school board must convene in private to discuss land, legal and/or personnel items.
