The Fulton County School System announces that Elyse Arnett is the new principal of Barnwell Elementary School. She succeeds former principal Doug Brown, who recently retired.
A veteran educator with more than 36 years of educational experience, Arnett served as an assistant principal at Roswell North Elementary School for five years and previously was a school counselor at Alpharetta, Crabapple Crossing, Lake Windward and Mimosa elementary schools. She taught high school English in DeKalb County and in Florida and Virginia before coming to the Fulton County School System.
Arnett attended Beaver College in Pennsylvania, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in English education and a minor in psychology. She also holds a master’s degree in school counseling from Florida Atlantic University and an educational leadership certificate from Kennesaw State University.
Arnett also was an inaugural participant in Fulton County Schools’ Promising Principals Program. The program gave aspiring principals extensive training in the areas of leadership, facilities and operations, curriculum, assessment, support services, organizational advancement, business and finance, school law, human resources and media relations.
